Each year new talents arise in the City of Lights… and they are numerous in the fashion business. Competition is fierce!
As we are about to enter a new season, I felt like focusing on three of my favorite French designers of the moment. You might already know some of them…
VANESSA SEWARD : THE HERITAGE OF THE 70’S
Wasn’t this name predestinated? Sew, Seward… this adopted Parisian was born in Buenos Aires and grew up in London before moving to Paris, where she has lived since 1981. After leaving the Studio Berçot (a famous fashion school in Paris), she joined Karl Lagerfeld’s team at Chanel and worked there for nine years.
Then, she spent two years alongside Tom Ford at Yves Saint Laurent, before moving on to Loris Azzaro.
She brilliantly relaunched this couture house with her inventive vision. Hailed by the press and buyers worldwide, she dressed many celebrities, including Natalie Portman, Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams, Nicole Kidman and Jemima Khan.
She has been collaborating with A.P.C. since winter 2012, designing a capsule collection each season. 2014 marked a turning point in her career with the launch of her own brand, supported by A.P.C. and its founder Jean Touitou. Her first collection for Fall-Winter 2015-16 was presented on March 10th 2015 and she just opened a new store in LA…
“Maybe it is because I have lived in so many places, but I don’t like clothes to be too derivative—it’s not about a caricature of la Parisienne,” says Seward in a Vogue interview. “I like to create flattering pieces that give women confidence because that is what I need myself. It’s not about looking overly intellectual or trendy, but beautiful.”
Her collections have a ’70s flair with silk blouses tucked into A-line midi skirts and culottes, and a trio of relaxed, belted jumpsuits.
