Forget the weird diet programs and listen to your body needs. And here are 8 common errors, realy easy to avoid to lose weight without starving! (interviews via French Chic Magazine Madame Figaro)

1- I stop eating pasta

« The stress demands to our brain more carbohydrates. It’s responsible of a considerable part in weight gain”, explains Isabelle Hininger-Favier, Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry and Nutrition, Faculty of Pharmacy, Grenoble . A study showed that women who best resisted to exhaustion were those who consumed carbohydrates. The other women constantly suffered of bulimia episodes. Carbohydrates restriction is frustrating and source of compulsions, while carbohydrates have a calming role and play on serotonin. Her advice? “Focus on cereals, legumes (as lentils, peas, green peas…), pasta and brown rice, which have a satiety effect”.
The wrong thing to do : adding non vegetable fats (cream or butter) with it. Always prefer all kinds of vegetables or fresh tomatoes, garlic and olive oil!

2- I don’t eat fruit because fruit sugar will make me fat

« Unlike refined sugar, fructose contained in fruit doesn’t rise sugar in blood and does not cause insulin secretion that promotes fat storage and weight gain”, decrypts Isabelle Hininger-Favier. Directly absorbed by the body, it does not turn into cellulite and does not create a feeling of hunger. But if you have 4 or 5 pounds to lose, two fruits a day is enough. “Beyond that, it is already too much for a diet. »




3- I will lose weight if I am feeding only with soups

« It is nutritionally correct and very good to lose body fat, but it is wrong in case of water retention and cellulite, admits Valerie Espinasse, micronutritionist. In these cases, you will not lose weight, but you will swell and take 200 grams on the next morning. The culprits? The addition of water and sodium contained in the vegetables. To lose weight without retaining water, avoid steamed vegetables (full of water). Prefer them grilled or cooked in the wok (with olive oil), cooked in ratatouille or antipasti. «

4- What is most important is not the food but to count the number of calories

« Counting calories is a major mistake. It starves you! There are good and bad calories”, underlines Valérie Espinasse. If you add the calories that content almonds and avocados that I recommend to lose weight, it will blew the counter! But the thing is that they contain omega 3 which help slimming: because they regulate sugar in blood, so they secrete less insulin, they store less and let you less hungry . Same for some calorie bombs : olive oil. It will be burned by the body to produce energy (unlike sunflower oil). The same for fat fishes (as salmons): they are perfect as slimming aids because they contain anti- inflammatory omega 3.  And cellulite is an inflammation !

5- I don’t think that Green tea will help

There are no miracle about Green tea but it worths it to try it. « Less weight gain was observed among consumers of green tea because it digests fats and burn calories”, according to Isabelle Hininger-Favier. Drinking green tea when you are in a diet helps you to lose more fat. The best way to to drink it is to have it during meals because it prevents fat absorption and lowers the glucose peak levels, thus we store less. »

6- I can’t do anything to refine my ass

« To reshape the buttocks, it is necessary to develop a training plan in the long term, explains Gil Amsallem, sport coach. Abs and glutes programs, aerobics, aquagym, weight training, tennis … and apply the rule of three : 30 minutes , 3 times per week for 3 months ».

  1. Some excellent information here, Cecile. Thank you! It all makes sense and puts the responsibility for healthy eating on us. I think the French can teach us a lesson (another one!) about good eating. In France, meals are unhurried. Each course is eaten slowly, with pleasure, and I keep my weight down by following the same pattern: a salad or clear soup followed by a main course with perhaps fruit or yoghurt to finish. By taking time to eat, and enjoying the process, you feel satisfied with smaller portions.

    During my last ‘gite’ holiday in France, I actually lost 1 kg! I had a light breakfast, a long, delicious ‘menu gastronomique’ at lunchtime which left me so satisfied, I wanted only some fruit or a poached egg in the evening. I usually put on weight on holiday so this was a delightful surprise!

    Another question for you, Cecile. Even though I keep my weight down, I still have a large bust. Have you any suggestions for choosing flattering clothes for this figure? Thank you in advance.
